Boxing Day and New Year’s Day at the races are one of the many great British festive traditions. King George VI Steeple Chase at Kempton Park and Down Royal Racecourse, where we’ve recently supplied new safety fencing, are just two of the courses hosting race meets on Boxing Day this year. Cheltenham & Exeter racecourses have jump & hurdle race meets arranged for New Year’s Day racing and family fun too.
We enjoy these hurdle and jump race meets over the winter months, but with unpredictable weather patterns at this time of year it’s important for racecourses to be able to protect good ground conditions and wherever possible not overuse their tracks. This is particularly crucial when multiple races take place on one day such as on Boxing & New Year’s Day.
To assist with this consideration, Barriers International developed the double rail mid-course system which racecourses use to simply divide a wide track into two adjacent courses. This safety fencing system is especially useful when the ground becomes soft, protecting it as much as possible. The safety barrier design involves having two parallel rails locked together using brackets and spacers supported on single straight posts. The strong configuration ensures that the barriers will withstand the heaviest of contacts from horses or riders.
These mid-course rails are installed at racecourses across the UK, at Baden Baden in Germany and at Chantilly racecourse in France. This racing fencing is available as all white, or a combination of green and white manufactured using virgin polymers to ensure we produce the safest & most durable product available. Our mid-course rail systems can be installed alongside either our Premier or Pro Rail systems, making your racecourse a safer place for both animal and jockey.
